Great Travel Moment While walking along the cobblestone streets of San Miguel de Allende, my husband and I heard Mexican folk music playing in the distance. We followed the music and were pleasantly surprised to find a group of children rehearsing a dance routine on their basketball court. I'm a huge fan of the performing arts and it tickled my heart to see the kids dancing gleefully. Watching them dance took me back to my childhood. I grew up in Hawaii where every year we celebrate "May Day" (aka "Lei Day"). My elementary school's May Day festivities involved having each classroom perform for family and fellow schoolmates. As a child, I have very fond memories of performing various May Day routines ranging from a maypole dance to a sakura dance to hula. As an adult, it was such a treat to see these children smiling, giggling and enjoying the art of dance! |
