Great Travel Moment An unexpected schedule change left my wife and I with an extra day in Shanghai after our tour ended. At first naively disappointed that the tour would no longer be providing our usual steam-table dining, as well as intimidated by being on our own, we struck out for the Bund, where we discovered the restaurant ?M?. On the roof of a colonial-era building, M turned out to be an elegant restaurant with a superb continental menu. On this delightful evening, my wife and I were seated at the very edge of the rooftop terrace, with a sweeping panoramic view of Pudong and the Oriental Pearl. Ships illuminated the Huangpu while we watched glowing rivulets of steel fall from the ascending skyscrapers. What we thought might be an intimidating inconvenience, our last night in China proved to be one of our most romantic experiences in thirty years. |
