Great Travel Moment

This photo was taken while I was conducting field research for my Master's Thesis. For me, it invokes memories of both my excitement to be in East Africa and the nervousness I felt as I embarked on my first solo research agenda. Months of preparation had culminated in this arrival in rural Tanzania and meeting the men and women who would inform my study. The photo itself is very evocative of both the area I worked in and the people I met there. Furthermore, my boyfriend (now fiancé) was able to join me in the field and his presence completed the adventure. Thinking about our time there reminds me not only of his invaluable insight and encouragement, but also of late nights snuggled up watching The Wire on my laptop when I should have been typing up my field notes - little shared moments on top of a unbelievable experience!
