Great Travel Moment I took this photograph of my boyfriend standing atop the sides of Waimea canyon on the island of Kauai. His silhouette is so small relative to the gaping contours that delve deep into the earth and resemble the grand canyon of Arizona. The world beneath him was speckled with green vegetation and red earth, with waterfalls flowing down every ledge. The air was cool and crisp, and wilderness hikes called out to us in every direction. Looking down into that landscape we felt very small but paradoxically expansive inside. This image represents a special travel moment in which I thoroughly absorbed the degree to which earth's landscapes might affect our spirits and open us up inside, often unknowingly. Those canyons carved a piece of me into acceptance of the gifts earth gives. |
