Great Travel Moment We knew it would take 5 hours to get back to the parking lot, though we only had 4 until the sun would set. But we sat there for an hour anyway, drinking in the moment and the view from the top. We spent 16 days in the northwest corner of the US, cramming in adventures like backpacking the Redwoods, whitewater kayaking the Rogue River, and rock climbing in Smith Rock. But the crowning moment of those two weeks was that one hour atop Mt. Thielsen. It was a quite afternoon in the sun, hiking and climbing to a peak no larger than a table top, with 360* of clean air and silence. For an hour, we were the only two souls on earth. Once life resumed to "normal" in Michigan, where things are often harried, I frequently think about that one hour my husband and I shared last September. |
