Great Travel Moment Somewhat late in life I decided that I would stop waiting for a partner or friend who liked to follow the-road-less-traveled, and would visit the exotic destinations of my dreams alone. To celebrate my 60th birthday I treated myself to an adventure trip to little-known islands in Fiji. The climb up the rim of this volcanic crater on the atoll known as Cobia wasn't terribly challenging but it was precarious, with nothing but tree roots for footholds. About five minutes after I took this photo my foot hit some loose earth and I almost went over the side. The story reminds me of all the reasons why I travel alone - I find strength in overcoming challenges, be they mountain cliffs or solo voyages. |
