Great Travel Moment "Ven aqui! Ven aqui!" Two young boys shouted as they waved us in their direction. My boyfriend and I were in a small village, located in the middle of dense jungle in the Yucatan Peninsula. We were walking near the lake after lunch when we were called to the waters edge by the two boys. They were no more than 8 or 9 years old, with faces similar to those of their Mayan ancestors. As we approached, we saw a crocodile lurking in the water in front of them! The boys giggled shyly when they saw our reaction to the creature. I was amazed at how nonchalant they were about being next to the crocodile. One of the boys was coaxing the crocodile to open its mouth with trash tied to a string. With open hearts and radiant courage, these boys gave us an exciting memory that we will forever treasure. |
