Great Travel Moment

This moment brought me to contemplate our place in the universe. I was camping on Maui when the sun set just off the tip of the island. To see a whole sun suspended above the earth's edge before disappearing below the horizon led me to imagine the earth rotating on its own axis, and around the sun, creating night, day, winter, and summer. Our earth juxtaposes vibrant seasons like the warmth of a sun filled day and the mystery of a star filled night. The image is significant to me because it alludes to how far we have come in our understanding of the world and just how much remains for us to grasp. In this moment I felt I had seen life in an entirety of circles and cycles that continue eternally, recreating the same water, air, and star dust so that we are all of the same matter.
