Great Travel Moment We drove south from Oamaru early in the morning and stopped at Koekohe Beach to see the Moeraki boulders. Wikipedia will tell you that the boulders are septarian concretions formed in ancient sea floor sediments in a process similar to the formation of pearls. What it won't tell you is the magical effect the boulders have on a couple from Minnesota making their first trip to New Zealand. What was planned to be a fifteen minute stop turned into nearly two hours of dancing along the beach marveling at these giant pearls and photographing them from every possible point of view. If you have a very large monitor you can see that the tiny dot in the upper right hand side of the image is a solitary figure, the only person we saw on that magical morning. |
