Great Travel Moment My trip to Mexico became a turning point for me in my road to mental, physical, and emotional recovery. I went on a day trip to the Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza, and we stopped in a Mayan village before continuing to the site of the historical ruins. Within this village, I saw an immense amount of poverty and realized the lack of education that these children had. I felt a sense of clarity about my own life's mission to teach and work with disadvantaged youth, while recognizing how to move forward in my own life. Once in the village, we walked to a cenote that within the culture is believed to have healing and cleansing powers. This is my view of the cenote just before I jumped in to cleanse my soul, knowing that when I returned to the U.S. I would be starting a new life for myself. |
