Dream Trip 2009Old Man Selling Corn by roadside, Mayan Peninsula, Mexico

Great Travel Moment We were exploring the Mayan Peninsula by car, and had just turned down a narrow highway near a village. Two old men dressed in rags were selling hot corn by the side of road. I insisted we stop and buy some at a $1 a cob, piping hot, wrapped in foil, sprinkled with chili peppers, and smelling delicious. As we made the purchase through the window of the car, I asked the old man if I could take his picture, and he nodded. The irony of it was that the corn was rock hard and extremely chewy, with little flavour... oh, well, it was worth it to meet this gentleman with the artisticly weathered face. |
