Great Travel Moment Stromboli, an island in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the north coast of Sicily, is an impressive active volcano famous for its 1949 movie of the same name. As we left Naples that evening, we sailed near Stromboli, which last erupted in August of 2008. With approximately 500 inhabitants, Stromboli relies mostly on tourism and fishing. This volcano is very impressive as it rises 2400 meters, 924 of which are above sea level. The brilliantly colored sunset behind this famous volcano provided a perfect backdrop for my photo! |
