Great Travel Moment Erg Chebbi Sand Dune By Peggy Dombeck 150 words A few years ago, I took a trip to Morocco that included time at Erg Chebbi, the largest sand dune complex in Morocco. After sleeping in tents, we woke before dawn, dressing quickly in order to climb the dune to see the sunrise. To my surprise, a large contingent of Moroccan dune guides was waiting silently outside our tents for a signal from our trip guide. At the signal, each grabbed one of us, telling us they would guide us up the dune. Despite my protests, a guide insisted on accompanying me to the top. I struggled up the sand until I came to this spot on the ridge with footprints leading the rest of the way to the top. I snapped the shutter. Looking around me, I could see the light turning the sand to gold, and I knew I travel to see the majesty of the natural world. |
