Great Travel Moment

This young cheetah struck me in her dignity as she sits poised before the expansive plains of the Masai Mara. We had just witnessed her mother seeming to train her in hunting moments before. She now stood alone, as though surveying her land and measuring up the tasks ahead. The cheetah appears as a master of her environment. This moment brought me to think of just how incapable humans are in their homes. We are often so distanced from the source of our food and water that we rely on grocery stores and mindlessly turn on the tap. We rarely actually provide for ourselves directly. This is an animal empowered by her ability to sustain herself in the wild, a feeling we are missing in our relationship to our environment.
