Great Travel Moment We wanted to witness the space shuttle Endeavor's spectacular nighttime launch. It was a four and a half hour wait but promised to be well worth it. At 2:28am EST, the sky turned a light peach and there is a mighty roar of booster rockets. The crowd gasps and the sky grows brighter as a great ball of fire rises in the southern sky and then GONE! Now the sky was getting dimmer and there was a heavy smell of sulfur in the air. Thick clouds had moved in and allowed only a few quick seconds view of the shuttle flight and it was over! We then started what ended up being three hours just to get off the island, then another hour to get back to Orlando. Was it really worth it? The pride that swelled up inside for our country and our space program shouted a resounding, YES! |
