Great Travel Moment This image reminds me of windy days on Laysan Island when large numbers of frigate birds would take flight, soaring on wind currents above our camp. They fly in synchrony and with astounding ease. Sometimes they would lower themselves to my level, look me in the eye, and perhaps try to steal my pen. At times they would fly so close that I could hear their wings intercepting the wind around my cheeks in a spectacular swoosh sound. I remember this moment as a heart feeling because endless soaring made it a necessity for me to create. My expression blossomed from birds in flight. Aerial migrations called my creativity upwards and I feel deep gratitude for their grace in my presence. The greatest gift is to capture movement as frozen inspiration in imagery. |
