Great Travel Moment Hijab is the Arabic word for "curtain/cover". In popular use, hijab means "head cover and modest dress for women" among Muslims, covering everything except the face and hands in public. The abaya "cloak" is an overgarment worn by some women in parts of the Islamic world. It is the traditional form of hijab. I saw these women while coming from the Tuileries Gardens towards Louvre. The contrast of their dresses against much lighter stones of Arc of Triomphe and Louvre made me grab my camera and take a photograph right away. |
