Great Travel Moment Walking along the Rive Droite on Seine river in Paris, under its bridges, I came across these "tattooed" trees right on the embankment. There were five or six of them next to each other. Carvings covered them from the bottom high into the branches to wherever eyes could see. Names and initials, hearts and crosses, symbols and single letters. People usually leave marks to lay their hands on something. They could not possess these trees, so they destroyed the natural beauty of the tree's bark in hopes to memorize themselves. Difficult task for future archeologists... |
