Great Travel Moment

Peruvian Parade In the summer of 2008, I arrived in the secluded city of Cusco, Peru, in the middle of the Andes, only to be greeted by this brilliant parade! I had no idea what the occasion was, as everyone from the young to the old were participating in it. The streets were completely lined with colour, dancing and celebration. Finally it was communicated to me that the city has a parade like this each Sunday morning, and that weekly festivities are part of Peruvians? every day lives. I took the opportunity to absorb and partake in this event. I was shocked that a parade of this magnitude happened once a week, and it magnified the cultural differences between North America and South America, which will remain with me forever. It left me exclaiming, ?Why don?t we have exciting events like this every week in Calgary?!?
