Dream Trip 2009Isnen rides the rusty anchor, Lombok, Indonesia

Great Travel Moment While in Indonesia on a chartered surfing cruise aboard an old wooden 82 foot gaff rigged ketch, called the Anne Judith 2, Isnen the second mate, was pulling up the anchor when suddenly, he jumped onto the rusty metal hulk as the boat gained speed and headed out from the crystal blue bay and into the deep swells of the open ocean. This photo is special to me because of Isnen, the man riding the anchor, for his smile was contagious, and he was so knowledgable, comfortable, and fearless while living for weeks on end upon the wild Indian Ocean. Isnens' bright purple shirt, coral colored pants contrast with his white baseball cap that is tipped to reveal his salt drenched head of thick black hair. He smiles and crouches down to scan the distant horizon, while he appears to be at one with the moving boat, that is set for a course, above the neon colored azure sea below him. |
