Great Travel Moment Piazza San Marco is one of the famous landmarks within the city of Venice. Here, the lion of San Marco can be seen atop one of two infamous columns, with the statue of San Teodoro of Amasea standing over the Egyptian crocodile on top of the other. Both were erected in 1172, and marked the site of executions that took place in Venice. Traveling to the city of my dreams was one thing, but being able to walk the streets knowing that history was made here was another. It was so easy to lose myself, enthralled by the Italian culture. The side streets and canals, with an occasional gondola across the shimmering water proved that this city is like no other. Around every corner, there were new discoveries to be made. Traveling to this glamorous destination made history seem all the more real. |
