Great Travel Moment For our honeymoon in November of 2008, my husband and I traveled to the Maldives, India and to Nepal to go trekking. When we arrived at our lodge in Nepal, there was some confusion. I had indicated when making the reservation that it was our honeymoon, but they did not expect that we were going to be a same-sex couple. However, the manager of the lodge did not blink when we explained that our State Supreme Court had just legalized gay marriage. That evening there was a knock on our door, and we were delighted to find champagne and two glasses. As we left for our trek the next morning, the manager told us to look out for the ancient tree we would see as we came up the hill on our return where many local people get married. The image will always remind me of his warmth and acceptance. |
