Great Travel Moment At a corner cafe in San Telmo, Buenos Aires; a man on an odd bicyle rode by, carrying loaves of bread sticking up out of the basket on his handlebars. After he made a delivery across the street; I caught his eye as he went by. With my bad Spanish, I managed to ask him about his bike; and express my amazement about the single, foot-operated brake. He happily took a turn around the intersection and demonstrated how well it worked. He was but one of many warm and welcoming people we met in Argentina, offering help without being asked, always patient and accommodating. They made two travelers welcome, as though we were friends of friends. Most of them seemed to be happy and living well with limited means, in spite of their recently wrecked economy. A recent look at our photos confirmed that we were happy there too. |
