The Himalayas are home to the world?s tallest peaks and Everest rises above them all. Straddling the border between Nepal and Tibet and rising over 29,000 ft., Everest has claimed over 200 lives. Monuments, like that pictured here, memorialize those climbers who have been claimed by the mountain. Here Buddhist prayer flags rage in a gale that sweeps across the high-altitude plain. The Tibetan mantras printed upon the flags rise toward the heavens carried there by furious winds at 18,000 ft.
