Great Travel Moment The "Captain's Choice" excursion out of Sitka was a great choice on our recent Alaska cruise aboard the Holland America ship the Ryndam. We saw eagles and otters, but the most memorable event occurred when we were dropped off on a silver sanded beach on an island in Sitka Sound for an hour or so. Some of our party ventured into the interior with a guide. Being alergic to some of the native plants, I chose to walk along the beach, close to the undergrowth. First I came upon a set of deer tracks, then I came upon a set of brown bear tracks. For a while there were both sets of tracks, then in a bit there were only bear tracks, leading back into the woods. I can only imagine what must have happened to the deer! It was a bit scary, to say the least! |
