Great Travel Moment On next to last day in the Serengeti National Park in Tanzania we came upon a pride of lions resting at the base of a large kopje (rock outcropping). There were at a dozen cubs of various ages. As the Land Cruiser came to a halt all the cubs took to the tall grass and disappeared, only to appear seconds later all around the rocks of the kopje. The cubs were distributed all around and then slowly these four cubs, which seem to be about the same age began to converge on one ledge. As they joined each other they turned around and focused their attention on one of the vehicles. For just a second they were in this pose, focusing their energy on what was below them. Then they quickly jumped off the ledge and were back on the ground. To this day I still remember them walking into the grass and silently appearing on the rocks and then disappearing again. This is one of my most favorite scenes of our trip. |
