Great Travel Moment My sister, who works with the national park service, invited us to join her for a special day on Santa Cruz Island, one of the Channel islands off the coast of Ventura Ca. We arrived early in the morning for the 1 hour boat trip to the island. It was a perfect day, sunny and clear. On the ride out we were followed by dolphins jumping in our wake. As we approached Santa Cruz Island, a whale breached and we saw it's enormous tail slowly arc out of the water. The pace and scale were awe inspiring. That was enough for a perfect day, but the highlight of the day was hearing my younger sister speak to the group which included a California senator, several members of the Chumash Indian tribe (the original inhabitants of the Channel Islands), and park service members. I will always remember how proud I was of her that day. |
