Great Travel Moment This was taken on the Manali-Leh Highway. This highway which is approximately 300 miles long in northern India between Manali and Ley boasts 2 of the highest mountain passes in the world. Travelling on this road can only happen during the summer months and takes 2 days by bus due to the treacherous switchbacks and natural disasters (avalanches, etc). Army trucks are seen throughout the way because this is close to the border with Pakistan and there are ongoing attacks. This overturned army truck was unfortunately one of several overturned vehicles we passed. In these amazing surroundings we were constantly reminded of how vulnerable we were. I'm not sure I will brave this trip again and it was a once-in-lifetime experience. |
