Great Travel Moment Rather than spending my last day in Florence waiting in line to see the David or the Duomo once again, I decided to explore the smaller piazzas and churches that line the quiet side streets of this Tuscan city. This photo was taken in a beautiful little square, outside of one of Europe?s oldest orphanages. The beautiful entrance of the orphanage can be seen behind the face of the bronze gargoyle fountain. It is sad to think that hundreds, or even thousands, of children were abandoned in this regal piazza. However, it is also beautiful to think that the priests and nuns running this orphanage saved these orphans by selflessly raising them and sharing love and affection. I enjoyed a day in the bright Italian sun relaxing in this piazza. |
