Great Travel Moment During that awkward time of year in Colorado when it is too early for good skiing, but the weather has turned cold, and the trails can be snowy or icy, those of us who are hiking aficionados can become just a bit stir crazy. This photo was taken at Hanging Lake, just outside of Glenwood Springs Colorado. Normally this short but steep hike is crowded with tourists during the summer, but on the day after Thanksgiving, during a snow storm, I had the place to myself. The surrounding red cliffs were covered with a fresh, light dusting of snow, and the trail was frozen and treacherous. Upon reaching the lake some ice had started to form on the waterfalls, but much of the water was still free flowing. It was a wonderful and glorious display of early winter splendor. What a day, what a hike! |
