Great Travel Moment My husband and I honeymooned in the Greek Isles in 2005, and I took this photo on the island of Santorini, in the town of Oia. I took this picture of an old wooden gate with a chain looped through the doors because it struck me how non-secure this "lock" really was, and how beautiful it was in its simplicity -- how unlike the locks and security systems we have in our cities this chained wooden gate was. I couldn't really understand what was being locked out (or kept in), either, but I was glad that none of it interrupted the gorgeous view of the caldera. More than anything, this chained wooden door made the gateway all the more tempting to enter, like a passage to the beckoning paradise behind it. |
