Great Travel Moment This is a photo of a close up from the Padrão dos Descobrimentos (Monument to the Discoveries); the monument represents a romantic idealization of the Portuguese past. It was taken in Lisbon, Portugal. I took this photo only a few months ago, when I traveled to Portugal for the weekend. This trip was the first time I had ever traveled alone in my life; I realized I was sick of waiting for things to happen. If you want something in this world you have to be willing to go after it independently. When I saw Queen Philipa in the monument, I noticed all the other figures in the monument were men. She was at the very end of the monument and she was kneeling in prayer or perhaps modesty, it seemed to me at that instance that she was the bravest of all of the people in this monument. |
