Great Travel Moment Growing up with Spaghetti Westerns thanks to my dad, I?d always yearned to see the great American West. In 2007 the time finally came. Channeling our inner John Wayne, we packed our saddle bags (backpacks) mounted our trusted stead (Albuquerque rental car) and road off into the sunset (well, we drove west at least) to the Mecca of every John Ford fan, Monument Valley. Arriving at our Navajo Hogan late at night we were greeted by a chorus of coyotes and a crackling campfire worthy of a Roy Rogers song. In the morning the real power of the valley hit us. The sun rose over the Mittens turning the rocks every shade of purple, orange and red known to man. The sense of amazement at our surroundings can be summed up in one statement ? returning from completing the ?morning business? my companion said ?Man, even the Outhouse has a view!? |
