Great Travel Moment This scene transpired in a small town south of Seville called Arcos de la Frontera. It's a village on a collapsed hill with two churches that crest its skyline. We were staying at this magnificent little inn (La Casa Grande) which is oriented in between them. We had read in our guidebook that the two churches, San Pedro (pictured) and Santa Maria, had a bit of a rivalry that dates back to when the pope recognized Santa Maria as the town's"leading church." The feud would play out on the hour. San Pedro's bell tower would toll first, then Santa Maria's, to which San Pedro would reply by clanging 15 times as if to get the last laugh. We would enjoy this volley from the inn's rooftop terrace. This shot was taken just a few steps down the alley, on an idyllic afternoon where we had the town to ourselves. |
