Great Travel Moment Searching for art painted by a great-grandfather in the old country was our quest. The family had left Russia in 1917 with some rolled up paintings and photos of a hundred more of great-grandfather's works. In 2006,we established www.grandart.org and headed to Russia.First stop:The Hermitage. The curator escorted us to 3 paintings and gave us photos of 4 others not currently on display.Next:Yusupov Palace where we discovered one of his paintings that had never been documented before.Next: Moscow and The Russian State Museum of History. There we found the HRH Grand Duchess Olga Romanoff as a young girl(photo) as well as Sergei Alexandrovna Romanoff, currently on loan to the Mayor of Moscow! We are overjoyed that Great-Grandfathers work is of importance to the Russian people. Finally:Serednikovo Estate where he had painted"Demon and Tamara".A Russian poem which he had captured magnificently on the ceiling. So soon it was time to go home and plan another trip.Great-Grandfather would be proud. |
