This photo is of a man I met two years ago on my first trip to the Maldives. He was walking down a street on Guraidhoo, a small island about 1 mile long and½ mile wide in South Male Atoll. When I returned this summer, I saw him again. He was walking down a different street, perpendicular to the one on which this photo was taken. But he was wearing the same sarong as last time! Or at least a sarong made of the same fabric. Somehow, that was comforting. As if no matter how much changes in life in such a short time, some things also stay the same.
