Great Travel Moment Castles fascinate me. They contain that heady mixture of royalty, history, and scandal that weaves together into a wonderful tapestry of storytelling. Every castle has its dark tales and eerie entities. One of my personal favourites is the ghost of Anne Boleyn that roams the infamous Tower of London(in search of hubby Henry no doubt)her head discreetly tucked under her arm. While Alcazar Segovia does not seem to readily play to the idea of ghosts running rampant; though it was a state prison for roughly two centuries; it does possess a certain enigmatic appeal. As evidenced by the single candelabra, albeit electric, that imbues the rather cold corner of the room with a ethereal glow, made all the more dramatic by the exquisitely crafted stained glass window. The mystery and dimness of the shadows, bringing to mind the centuries of intrigue and romance concealed within these castle walls. |
