Great Travel Moment We love to eat Greek food and are fortunate that within 45 minutes, we are in a small Greek community called Tarpon Springs. The city is known as the"Sponge Capital of the World". In the early 1900's, there was a sponge blight in Greece. It forced many Greek sponge divers to seek a place where they could utilize their sponge diving abilities. They came to Tarpon Springs,Florida. As a result of them coming, many restaurants were established. Todate, many residents there still speak Greek and have kept the Greek tradition including Greek cooking. This cold plate is our favorite dish at Hellas. It has pickled octopus, pickled shrimp, tsatsiki (cucumber dip with garlic), Greek pepper,Kalamata olives,Sliced cucumber, Greek mashed potatoes, potatoes with caviar, feta cheese, olive oil, and a variety of Greek spices. Yum! If you are in the Tampa Bay area, do not miss this well-kept secret. Yes, it is authentic Greek food. We were just there today. |

The food looks delicious. I believe I can smell it! Perhaps if we make it to the streetrod show in Tampa this October we will check out Hellas. Nice job.
