Great Travel Moment In the Dera Desert of Western India and he rural Rajasthan region we had the opportunity to experience the hospitality of the Bishnoi tribes by visiting several of their fascinating communities and venturing into there housing compounds. They often invited in to see their homes. What makes the image more than special is the visitation gift my wife thought to bring along. She being a professional quilter thought that instead of the usual gift of writing paper and pens for the kids, it would be nice to provide something useful for the women. She put together kits with an assortment of heavy-duty sewing needles and threads. They certainly were a hit, not only with the women but also for us to be able to offer. The kits not only opened up some great imaging opportunities for me but they also created much more sharing by the village women of their needle work and fabric items with my wife. Its moments like this that are why we travel. Note the zip-lock bag in the seated ladies lap. |
