Great Travel Moment Our hotel receptionist was so eager to announce that the big object in hotel lobby was for the Americans. A lot of people there wondered what it was. I could not figure out what it was, either, so I asked. It was an Easter egg! Since Easter was not celebrated in Turkey, I was touched by the gesture. That evening, there was a big basket of colored eggs at dinner. Since it was a Saturday, I asked if there was a way that I could order eggs for the next day as I had brought Easter baskets for my tour group of 9 plus two for the tour guide and the driver. I had jelly beans and candies from home and wanted to add some colored eggs. The chef told me take the eggs that evening since they would not have them the next day. They thought that Easter was celebrated on Saturday! It turned out that we were the only Americans in the restaurant that evening. They put a flag on each table and there were no other table with the American flag but ours. It was one Easter that I will never forget. |
