Great Travel Moment For some, climbing Mount Sinai in the middle of the night so as to be at its summit to witness the sunrise is a holy pilgrimage. For others, like myself, climbing the biblically historic mountain, (where it is believed that Moses received the Ten Commandments) it was a small adventure and an opportunity to view to glorious sight of the sun breaking the horizon in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula. Regardless of one's motivation, the climb was an inspirational and rewarding experience. Not to mention strenuous. Thankfully, there were many teahouses to rest at during the climb and, if one were desperate, they could climb on the back of a camel. I kept thinking how Moses, a man in his eighties, ascended Mount Sinai without the aid of a path and carved out steps, assistance that exists today. However, the sly grin of this camel, an animal that has been in this land as long as any living creature indicated that perhaps even those servants of God need a ride from time to time. |
