Great Travel Moment My husband and I spent 2 & 1/2 glorious weeks in Dubai over Christmas, 2005. It truly was the trip of a life time. The amazing high-rise skylines, mixed with traditional water taxis (Abra) and masted ships, was an awe inspiring spectacle. We had already been back and forth across The Creek many times, but on this particular occasion, the setting sun lit the scene with a glow that no other time of the day could match. I was mesmerized. And I was on the wrong side of the Abra to get the shot! Having almost no room to maneuver on the over crowded little boat, I asked for help from the men on the other side to scoot over the top of the engine cover and crowd-in with them. One Egyptian man spoke English and helped me clamber over, but only after obtaining permission from my husband! He and another man held my arms as I stood precariously in the rocking little boat... and I got my shot. Thanks to the kindness of strangers, it is a very, very special memory. |
