Flying Over the Holidays
>> Think international.
Thanksgiving and Christmas bring off-peak fares to Europe and other overseas locales—especially this year, given the recent capacity growth on international routes. You'll find relatively cheap seats on uncrowded planes to most overseas business-travel destinations, particularly European cities. Increase your comfort by flying these international routes on a foreign carrier, where the coach seats often have more legroom and better entertainment systems than those on a U.S. airline.
>> Consider going away between holidays instead of during them.
The period between Thanksgiving and Christmas—this year, Wednesday, November 28 through Wednesday, December 16—is an off-peak time in the Caribbean and other warm-weather resort areas, which means huge savings.
