Tokyo restaurants
According to local lore, Tokyo has more Italian restaurants than New York City, and judging from the recent tsunami of famous French chefs' outposts, it's on its way to boasting more bistros and patisseries than Paris. Factor in the tapas and wine bars and branches of everything from Dean & DeLuca to Union Square Café, and it'd be easy to come here and not touch a noodle…. Big mistake: Tokyo's Japanese offerings outshine anything you'll find back home. The ramen choices alone are worth the trip, and with the sprawling Tsukiji Fish Market as the source for all things fishy, Tokyo's sushi redefines freshness. Yet, given the Japanese skill at adapting and perfecting foreign influences, the international cuisine is also too good to pass up. Start by checking out the culinary scene at Tokyo's luxury malls, like Roppongi Hills, Omotesando Hills, and Tokyo Midtown—all of which have restaurants with big-name chefs at the helm.
