ITALY
In one of our favorite car-chase scenes, Bond speeds his Lotus Esprit S1 along the rugged Panoramic Cugnana Road along northeastern Sardinia's Costa Smeralda, while a helicopter overhead shoots at him. He finally plunges his vehicle into the Med—is this the end?!—but it suddenly transforms into a submarine. All courtesy of The Spy Who Loved Me (1977), which starred Roger Moore as Bond and Barbara Bach as a Russian spy named Major Anya Amasova. You can trace Moore's skidmarks to the 55-room Hotel Pitrizza and enjoy cocktails and fine Mediterranean fare at its romantic restaurant, which overlooks the pier where the Lotus went for a dip. Or check into Cala di Volpe, the legendary five-star resort where Bond and his Russian spy babe stayedthe Pontile Piano Bar stood in for their suite and is still instantly recognizable from the film.
