The Pavilion, London
The deal: £100 ($184) for a double room; £60 for a single
The hood: Bayswater, just outside Hyde Park and near Paddington Station.
What you'll get: Cool Britannia. The owners are ex-model Danny Karne and his sister Noshi, so no surprise the hot crowd flocks here—it's one of fashion photog Mario Testino's favorite locations. What keeps 'em coming back is the loony, decadent look of the 30 themed rooms, which have names like Highland Fling, Cosmic Girl, and Better Red Than Dead. We recommend the totally fly Honky Tonk Afro room: With its disco ball and fake leopard skin, it's where Antonio Fargas—Huggy Bear himself—stays when he's in town. For a mere £130, five can sleep in the "family room"—not that we've seen lots of families staying there. Even the tiny singles have bathrooms and satellite TV, and the rates include Continental breakfast. If Danny likes you, he may take you for a sightseeing spin in his purple Lamborghini Diablo.
Near and not so dear: After a night at the pubs or clubs—or frolicking in the family room—indulge the munchies with falafel and other mezes at nearby Maroush I, an inexpensive Middle Eastern joint that's open until 2 a.m. Come July, walk to nearby Kensington Gardens to see the translucent inflatable canopy designed by Rem Koolhaas and Cecil Balmond that will function as a café and event location outside the Serpentine Gallery.
