Stop! Don't make another move. Gently take the keys out of the ignition. Now put them in a safe place far from temptation, because the best way to avoid the pump this summer is to put the car in park. Gas prices, which have risen more than 35 percent from May 2005 to May 2006, are putting a damper on many a would-be summer vacation. But don't let the ExxonMobils of the world keep you from getting out of town. We've found a few ways to travel and save on gas at the same time, whether you're under your own steam (hiking or kayaking) or someone else's (a paddleboat or a horse). Consider it a way to make your summer more green—in more ways than one.
