Delfin I, Delfin Amazon Cruises, Peru
Design with a mission. That's what floats this boat in the Amazon. Sustainable Peruvian hardwood worked by local artisans covers both the interiors and exterior of the Delfin I. Those woven placemats, napkin rings, bread baskets, and bowls decorating the dinner table? They were created through an outreach program that trains and empowers local women. The four wood-clad rooms, which were fully refurbished in November 2010, have the feel of a floating tree house and offer 180-degree rain-forest views from their glass walls. White 400-thread-count pima cotton sheets (made in Peru) get a punch from nubby oatmeal-colored cushions handwoven locally from sustainable palm-leaf fibers, while animal-shaped souvenirs produced by women from the Puerto Miguel community add a touch of whimsy (the proceeds support local schools). This cruise looks good and does good. That's something that will never go out of style.
