S.S. Antoinette, Uniworld, Europe
While many cruise lines have made serious strides in the design department, few have gone as far as Uniworld to push the interiors envelope. The boutique river-cruise line made a real fashion statement in March 2011 when it launched the fanciful S.S. Antoinette, an 82-cabin ship decorated with an edgy mix of over-the-top furniture, fabrics, and art. A Baccarat crystal chandelier, a 19th-century Venetian glass mirror, and a spread of Brazilian marble set the scene in the lobby. The rooms are a riot of pattern and texture (Tiffany blue toile de Jouy, striped silk taffeta, plush crimson velvet) offset by more modern accents (a stark white sham here, a simple chrome side table there). The result is that this riverboat queen looks and feels like an updated extension of the royal castles you'll cruise past on the Rhine.
