Crystal Serenity, Crystal Cruises, Worldwide
Crystal Serenity's $25-million renovation, completed in May 2011, is a redo that cruisers can feel good about: The ship's previous textiles were donated to the needy in Senegal, and couches and electronics were sent to the Salvation Army in New Jersey. What also feels good? The new interiors' attention to texture. Tufted leather headboards, Frette linens, and silk and velvet upholstery add please-touch coziness to the 535 staterooms. Bold geometric forms on the carpets and coverlets add a Jonathan Adler–esque pop of pattern to serene shades of sand, steel, and cream. In the common areas, mod loungers in lime and mango create a lively feel poolside, white tablecloths and Villeroy & Boch china lend a sense of occasion to dinnertime, and the spa employs feng shui principles to augment its Asian-inspired treatments. If Serenity's new look leaves you feeling a little dowdy, you can stop into Christian Dior, the brand's first floating store.
